The Only Traffic Signal
on the Reservation Doesn't Flash Red Anymore

The theme of this story is about not making the same mistakes that were made in the past, even if they were made by different people.
The same mistakes were made each year at the reservation and only two older boys noticed the same pattern happening.
In the story Adrian and his friend would sit on the porch in the summer almost every year and Adrians friend noticed that every basketball star since his team has messed up and totally ruined his career. Therefore all of them would get in trouble and their lives would no longer be the same.

This song best represents the mood of the story. When the climax happens, the mood gets tense and overwhelming. With this song is starts out fast (like the climax) and eventually it starts to slow and seems like a prettier song (like the resolution). The climax of the story was when the girl and the grandma are being chased by the motorcycle gang. During that time the gang holds a gun to the girls head. the girl and the grandma end up running and hiding under a dock at the last minute. They had to do something terrible in order to save their own lives. But you must read the story to find out. The resolution is when the girl and her grandmother are walking back home, away from their terrible, scary afternoon...

The Bees

Harmony in the Boudoir

After years of marriage, he stands at the foot of the bed and
tells his wife that she will never know him, that for everything
he says there is more that he does not say, that behind each
word he utters there is another word, and hundreds more be-
hind that one. All those unsaid words, he says, contain his true
self, which has been betrayed by the superficial self before her.
"So you see," he says, kicking off his slippers, "I am more than
what I have led you to believe I am." "Oh, you silly man," says
his wife, "of course you are. I find that just thinking of you
having so many selves receding into nothingness is very excit-
ing. That you barely exist as you are couldn't please me more."

This poem connects with the story, "The Bees" because the main character Gene does not tell his wife that he was previously married and has another son. His wife does not really want to hear all of that either. Gene knows he messed up in his past and tries to not make the same mistakes with his present wife and son. He soon starts to realize that several previous events are happening again and thinks that something else will happen and his wife will find out about his past life but she never will......

Blood

Are you sick? well do not worry because all you need is the blood of a mole. the man in this story has just what you need.
While wondering if his pet shop will close down, a woman came in and needed the blood of a mole. He did not have any moles and did not want to dissapoint the old woman so he gave her 3 drops of his blood so she could go home and save her son. Then many days later the woman came back in and said her son was alive and well again. His blood had saved her son!
A few more people asked for blood so he gave them each 3 drops. then one day a mob of people with knifes tried to get the "blood of a mole".
The story always seemed to stay dark and quiet, that is until the end.....
